The United States will begin “fabrication activities” on parts for ground-launched cruise missile systems, the Pentagon said on Monday, after Washington announced it plans to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

“We will commence fabrication activities on components to support developmental testing of these systems - activities that until February 2 would have been inconsistent with our obligations under the Treaty,” Army Lieutenant Colonel Michelle Baldanza said.

“This research and development is designed to be reversible, should Russia return to full and verifiable compliance before we withdraw from the Treaty in August 2019,” Baldanza said.

Good answer, I say!

Saw “fabricating” in the title and thought it was another MSM article.

It basically means that if Putin changes his mind, we will too.

What we need is to build 2000 anti missile missiles. We need to have enough ballistic missile interceptors to take out a major launch by Russia or China.

Just wait till the US gets long range hypersonic missiles. Russians will be singing a different tune then.

We may very well have them now. It's usually the weaker of the two who has to bluster and brag like Russia is doing regarding their capabilities. The quietest one in the room is often the most dangerous one in the room.

Arms control was the crowning achievement of the Reagan administration.

This only makes us less secure.

I strongly suspect the SM-6 antiship missile is hypersonic after watching it sink a Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate with one hit. That's the same class that the USS Stark took 2 hits from Exocet antiship missiles and sailed home. The SM-6 has a very small warhead to boot.
