Brother, they have picked all the winners since 70s at least .
Two things my old arse knows it’s true.
There is no one that has a fortune that didn’t create a crime.
No billionaires or big corporations exist here without great lobbyist, and government handouts. That’s why they all spend millions on them. Mafia is significantly more honest than Congress.
They are 100% pay to play. Buying a congressman or legislator is easy than buying a car. I have done it many times. (But for good causes and reasons not $$$, as I was primarily lobbying for CCA during gill net wars, and shite like that.

I can see the benefits of this from a national security standpoint because chips are just as important as weaponry at this point.
And yet, as someone already posted, Trump just rolled back regulations to allow US chip companies to sell to China. So I have three questions:
1. Given the above, how do you justify this on the basis of national security?
2. Why not just sign a government contract with these companies to supply chips and stipulate under the contract that they can only supply American companies, and it return make it worth their while with tax exemptions or the like? Why does the government have to own part of the company to protect national security?
3. If the government has no decision making ability or influence over the company, how exactly does it protect national security?

It’s only 10% and it’s not getting a seat on the board. How is that nationalizing the company? It’s still mostly owned by non US government entities.
The federal income tax was also sold as only 1% and temporary. How'd that turn out?

The company is losing about $1 billion a month and needs customers or deals for its chip design and manufacturing businesses to get back on track, industry analysts say.
That says pretty much all you need to know. This is a bail out with the cherry on top being the Feds gaining more control.

It’s critically important that our chip manufacturers drastically increase their technology and production in order to get as far as possible from dependence on Taiwan. We are not going to have a war with China over that island and they are eventually going to seize it. Intel has struggled for years even though they have significant capabilities. This might be a very good thing for national security.
Increased government involvement is rarely ever a good thing.

And it will be cheered on by so called conservatives.
Small government, state's rights, Conservatives sure are cheering Federal overreach a whole lot these days.

My uncle was a famous Liberal, 3 degrees from Yale etc, definitely from liberal quilt about winning the birth lottery, but I very nice guy. (Most all of your news junkies would know his son) and yes I argued them all the time, but always in a professional manner. He was also an 40-50 year high level bureaucrat in DC. He moved to Georgetown in 50s or 60s. (His brothers on other hand were a doctor and VP of a huge company you would know)
They all volunteered and fought as soldiers in WW2, one was a B-17 pilot who was shot down, the other was volunteer fighter pilot who fought in Battle of Britain, one was military intelligence, one was in merchant marines as ship captain.
One thing he told me long ago, “Stan, I have been in DC since 58 and I seen a lot of changes. But one thing that doesn’t change no matter which party is in control is that the bureaucracy continues to grow. It takes more effort and more pcs, paperwork etc to do less and less, no matter who is in control.
That is something that’s so obvious we should all be able to agree to that. That’s the deep state
