First he was going to.

quote:

President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani tells ABC News he's working as part of the president's defense team in his upcoming second impeachment trial -- and that he's prepared to argue that the president's claims of widespread voter fraud did not constitute incitement to violence because the widely-debunked claims are true.

ABC

quote:

"I'm involved right now … that's what I'm working on," Giuliani told ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl. A few hours later, Giuliani -- who led the president's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results -- was spotted at the White House.

UPDATE: Karl Rove says this makes conviction MORE likely.

quote:

Republican strategist Karl Rove suggested on Sunday that President Trump is at higher risk of the Senate voting to convict him in his second impeachment trial if his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani spearheads his defense.

The Hill

NOW RUDY SAYS HE CANNOT BECAUSE HE IS A FACT WITNESS.

quote:

Rudy Giuliani now says he won't be a part of President Donald Trump's impeachment defense team. Calling himself a "witness," the president's personal attorney told ABC News' chief White House correspondent, Jonathan Karl, that he could not defend Trump against the charge of inciting an insurrection because he attended — and spoke at — the event at the center of the allegation.

This is a horrible decision by Trump. Rudy has clearly shown himself to have lost a lot off his fastball. There is no telling what he will say. This has a much higher chance of hurting rather than helping trump.

Yes. Taken from the 3 reports.

Your objection is overruled.

That’s the constitutional question. The Senate will decide it, and SCOTUS will affirm it 7-2 in a plurality decision in which 3 say it’s a political question.

I don't see how this is even Constitutional. How can you retroactively remove someone from office after a new administration has moved into the White House? If he's found guilty, can his conviction be appealed to the Supreme Court?

Well. It won’t be quiet if Rudy is involved. It’s just that no one takes him seriously. And he has zero stroke in the Senate.

He will also likely be indicted by that time by DC (even if he’s pardoned).

You aren’t. You are banning them from further office in the future.

Eventually yes.

To be clear, Trump will be defended in impeachment by a lawyer he pardoned.

Not the best optics.

Just please don’t make that blonde chick from Michigan a key witness. Made some terrible decisions first time around.
