I'm not going to make an ardent defense of our history with regime change, but I think the Mullahs have worn out their welcome in the Arab world.

I don't think we'd be escalating this without the tacit approval of their neighbors.

The Arabs want us to deal with the Persians.

They simply can't have a nuke armed Iran holding the area hostage.

Right there, as simple as that.

Our allies in the middle east, Jordan, Saudi, UAE, Turkey, Egypt.

None of them want a Nuclear Armed Iran.

They all fully support Iran not getting there.

If we’re going all in on sustained bombing and missile operations, what is that supposed to accomplish without some sort of stabilizing force on the ground?

This is just me spit balling. But I think the operation will focus on taking out Iranian governmental hardliners and decimating the IRCG leadership. The rest of the military and other security forces will remain mostly untouched. I wouldn’t be surprised to see SOF raids(2-3 weeks down the road) to kill/capture leadership and nuclear scientists. And probably SF/CIA embeds with military and police across the country to have a hand ensuring security and stabilization without committing large numbers of our own ground forces.

Then the Arabs should be useful for once. But they won’t and can’t because they’re inept generally and militarily, and they know it.

Regime change in Iran isn’t worth one single American life, or dollar.

I think you will see multiple military assets bombed out of existence.

IGRC reduced to meaningless.

Air assets destroyed.

Leadership killed.

Opposition leaders supported.

Nuke facilities gone.

Good….thats what happens when you alienate your allies. Anyway I thought Trump said during his 2.0 campaign that there would be no new wars and the U.S. doesn’t have to be the policeman of the world.

Great, so we just decimate their entire political and social systems and head for home.

That shouldn’t result in unmitigated disaster on the ground as 90 million people across various ethnic and religious groups clamber around for power.

Assuming they haven't got an interim group to assume leadership.

I get it you aren't excited and I understand your point.

Yes, but we can’t kill the entire military or destroy everything have because someone has to be there to run the country when we’re finished. Unless we want to do Iraq 2.0 and the neither the American people nor President Trump have any desire to do that.

Nope that's the rub, how much to kill and how much to persuade they want to live and cooperate.

It will be very difficult to toe the line between eliminating leadership and leaving enough people in place to actually put the pieces together. I don’t know how that can be accomplished without huge numbers on the ground. If the Iranian’s themselves had that manpower assembled and unified in wanting liberal democracy, they’d have taken over by now.

Categorically eliminating the Ba’ath party set us back 15 years, 2500 lives, and a few trillion dollars.

Maybe with IGRC removed from the equation, but it's a tough nut to crack regardless

If I were Trump I would pull the 100th out of Mildenhall permanently to Poland and the fighters out of Lakenheath to Hahn, tell them we no longer need to pay them for bases we can't use.

The real truth is we will use F22s F35s and B2s and it will be over before they realize it has begun. By that time everyone will be home and Iran will have no military left.
