Graham Platner, an oyster farmer and Marine veteran, won the Democratic primary in June 2026 to challenge Sen. Susan Collins but suspended his campaign in early July after a woman accused him of sexual assault in 2021, which he denied. Earlier issues included a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol that he said he got unknowingly while drinking with Marines, plus old Reddit posts downplaying sexual assault responsibility. Carlson claimed Platner's opposition to Israel torpedoed his strong chances, drawing sharp online criticism that focused instead on the scandals and questioned the commentator's priorities.
