You need to taper your expectations - if we can avoid an absolutely devastating recession / depression then I will be happy

Some of us will avoid. Millions will face their own personal great depression, caused directly by government overreach. Or we'll do stimulus after stimulus, creating massive problems down the road when the old people we save for now are dead anyway.

Not only does this NOT avoid that, it nearly guarantees them.

They can't be avoided at this point - you can't just open everything up and expect stuff to go back to normal. People need to see these kind of structured opening measures in place to feel comfortable to participate in the economy.

If you just open up immediately, a 2nd spike would be absolutely devastating. People wouldn't be shopping, they wouldn't want to go into the office, etc.

This is really the only way to try and ease us back along and create revenue so that some of these industries can adjust and hopefully the bottom won't fall out too hard.

By "treat all patients without crisis care", do you think they want everyone off a vent? The use of the word "all" there is strange.

I’m guessing it means being able to handle patients without surge capacity.

The economy has already collapsed.

I don’t think so. This isn’t a typical rescission due to economic factors like reductions in demand or supply bubbles bursting.

It’s uncharted water. Our macro indicators are still strong.

The shutdown

I’m mixed. I think the shutdown was absolutely necessary in certain areas. I don’t think it should have been as widespread as it was because less dense areas were not nearly as impacted as some metro areas.

But I have the benefit of hindsight

Will these guidelines affect anything at all? I've heard they don't

They aren’t mandates. The ultimate decisions are up to the various governors.

would think Louisiana will go to phase 1 around May 1st assuming we see a downward trend the rest of April. No?

The plan provides for making decision down to the county/parish level. There may be a scenario where most of Louisiana starts phase one in two weeks while certain areas stay on lockdown.

They won’t be in 6 weeks.

Fauci and Birx having a heavy role is NOT good news

those two having any role is bad news for the country.
