Not surprised. I imagine you conservatives would prefer strong-man rule since your ideas are so unpopular and require a dictatorship.

I can see how someone would simultaneously believe in democracy, limited government, and human rights but not also admire how much easier it is to get one's agenda accomplished in a totalitarian system.
For example: a guy may both believe that Islam's treatment of women is abhorrent, but also sometimes wish they had that kind of power over their SO's when they're stuck sleeping on the couch.
One can think murder is wrong, but still fantasize about killing their aggravating boss.

He has repeatedly expressed admiration for strong-man rule. It doesn't matter if he was joking in a way. Just making the joke is awful enough. I can't imagine Thomas Jefferson joking about being a president for life. Plus we need to present it as Trump being serious. He said it. That's good enough to get people to want to vote against him and Republicans.
