They overcame Democratic resistance and passed the civil rights act back in the 60s even though black people being oppressed didn't affect any of them since they were all white. Can you imagine the hubris?
You think the small government folks were the ones passing the federal Civil Right Act?
Hmmm interesting
surely we wouldn’t find a significant geographical split in the voting for this act.

This is the difference between Obergefell and Roe. With overturning Roe, you are just preventing something in the future.
Overturn Obergefell and you immediately nullify marriages that have been in place for as many as 10 years. The ramifications of that are monumental, from estates, health insurance, and countless other things.
For that reason alone I see at least Roberts, Kavanaugh, most likely Gorsuch not being willing to undo now 10+ years of life for people that would be impacted.

It's a fact that a greater percentage of Republicans voted for it in both the House and the Senate than Democrats.
And it's also a fact that Republicans in the 1960s embraced a philosophy of small government.
So which aspect of this do you doubt?

Barry Goldwater voted against it.
one of the few non-southern republicans to do so.
But again, is the federal government passing a law to tell states what to do big or small government?

So a straight couple with adopted children aren't a family. Got it.

Depends.
Was Jim Crow and segregation Constitutional?
If not, then it's small government. It's one of the few legitimate functions of government to make sure the Constitution is followed.
