"If, they attack us...we bomb them"? Iran (Fundamentalist Islam) is in the process of challenging this strategy. They look at our divided and deteriorating Society (it is) that is on the verge of civil war, and scoff at our supposed moral/practical superiority.

The problem with our current 'Nation-building' mindset, is that the US struts into these Countries with high-minded intent to free good people from their dictatorial - and in many instances, psychotic - fanatical masters...and we set up pseudo-Governments and rally all of the good folk to man these Institutions and essentially choose sides as activists. And then, after realizing that the Fanatics are NEVER going away, and will use any and all terrorist strategy to collapse said pseudo-Government...and severely punish all the Locals who supported it...well...I'm sure the Poliboard gets it. It's kinda like leaving those Guys on the rooftops in Benghazi, to fend for themselves...because the Politicians in power don't want to bear the consequences of their policy choices. When we leave, the good folk will have their heads chopped off...while we cool it.

It is a lot like the Hood in Baltimore, it's either go in and take out the sociopaths with boots on the ground and lethal force, and establish an Authoritarian order wherein if any citizen so much as causes any rebellious trouble...they are removed. Or tolerate the growth of evil. And given Family ties, Racial instincts, and the power of Ideological/Religious propaganda...we know where any 'Authoritarian' effort goes. The Hood hates the "Po-Po".

Freedom and Democracy only works for truly "moral and Religious" (Religion meaning God-fearing/Universal Brotherhood belief) people. To the degree that such wisdom does not form the psyche of a People...Authoritarian Rule is required to maintain civility. There can be no respect for 'civil rights', and freedom, when those very freedoms undermine civility. Book it, were it not for the power of a gun...people would never pay their tickets for running red lights. And carnage would ensue.

I remember seeing this experiment with rats...started off with two rats in a cage. The two were relatively peaceful, going about their usual, Naturally-instinctual business. They ate, mated, and had offspring. And the societal pace picked up. The offspring had offspring...and again...more friction. Progression toward "wailing and gnashing of teeth" didn't take long, as the group turned on each other. Cannibalism.

Bottom line. We can kiss the 'Democracy' thing good bye. Wishful and Idealist thinking, in a time where good intent Policy has become essentially impractical, and dysfunctional, is in it's death throes. So I guess you are right, TT...and I assume that you'll be willing to defend the wholesale bombing of innocent and powerless women and children...on your 'judgment day'. Of course, you - as many do - might not believe in a God, another life, and any Judgment. If such be the case...well hell...when do we start breaking the collateral damage eggs and eliminating the individuals who undermine Societal order. In that light, Hitler had it right.
