The phrase “made in China” is rarely a selling point in America. It’s even more rare to apply it to vehicles from American automakers. Until now.
Venture into a Buick, Cadillac or a Ford showroom (by 2019), and uncover Chinese-built vehicles such as Buick Envision, Cadillac CT-6 plug-in hybrid or the next Ford Focus.

Starting next year, GM will import between 30,000 and 40,000 Buick Envision crossovers annually from a plant in Shandong Province.
The only reason they are doing this is it is not economically feasible to produce a car like the Envision in the US in such small numbers. The car is already built in China for that market. If it wasn't already made overseas it would not be made at all.
Same with the CT6 hybrid I see you mentioned in another post. Very low volume car in the US that is already made in China. It's only the hybrid made there.
So no, GM isn't moving it's production to China. It's leveraging production capacity to fill a niche.
It's no different than the Buick Regal from several years ago that was actually an Opel built in Germany. About the only difference was the grill and badging.

Any of my topics slightly critical of Trump get a lot of insults and no intelligent retorts.

I follow a guy named Scotty Kilmer on YouTube. A long-time auto mechanic who is quirky as hell, but he knows basically everything about cars.
According to him GM had made some progress regarding the quality of their cars, but they've regressed like crazy over the past several years. He says you couldn't give him a GM car now.
Toyota and Honda, along with their upscale brands, still make the most reliable cars.

Thanks Mary Barra.
Needs to be gone.

Zero-zero tariffs is the goal. He's said this many times.
Point to any agreement he even tried to get to zero-zero??
Trump is the man that put 25% tariffs on steel purchased by Americans from any country. Switzerland and Hong Kong and Singapore have zero tariffs but Trump still punishes Americans that purchase steel or aluminum from those countries.
So much for his talk. Look at his actions.
BTW since I posted the graph about Chinese investment in the USA it dawned on me that even after Trump started this trade war Chinese investment in US companies and plants has exceeded that of the entire steel industry.
Has the steel industry with their politically derived protection created more jobs in the USA or has the Chinese investors??? Scary.

Exports of autos to China from the USA far exceeded imports---or at least they did till the Trump Trade War--but neither number is significant relative to the markets targeted.
Volvo, a Chinese owned company, opened a plant in South Carolina in 2018.

No you do not. They are buying into US plants in a rather big way. Or at least they were until the trade war.
Labor is not a huge factor in many of the goods imported from China into the US. China's labor is not as cheap as many other countries these days.
China owns Syngenta, Smithfield Foods, Motorola Mobility, AMC theaters, and Terex construction equipment are among companies China owns.
Ironically Chinese investment in the US has plummeted since the trade war started. I guess we only want certain people to create jobs in the US???
Dude, who gives a flying frick about China's investment in the US, they aren't even in our top-10.
China may be going down, but most other countries are going up. And the offset makes China's loss irrelevant.

Just pointing out that China is in fact investing in plants and jobs in the US.
But I will put you down and not caring if anyone invest in the US. I guess the Chinese can simply continue to buy T-bills with all those dollar reserves they have instead of investing in companies in the USA that employ people.

Well you are wrong. Note I did not say all or even a majority but there are many. There are lot of things like chemical intermediates that have very little labor involved in production.
