Yes, it is. That's why using tariffs to bring mfg back to the US is such a great idea. People will sit here and lament our dependence on foreign countries but then whine when someone tries to do something about it. It makes no sense.

Right. But you have to understand the absolutely colossal difference in wages which is the biggest driver here. Transportation costs are minimal in comparison, environmental regulations are part of this and so on. I’m not sure even a 100% tariff will do enough to drive manufacturing back here from the countries most associated with the outsourcing. Trump is willing to make that gamble and it might pay off. None of us really know. As I’ve mentioned on a couple of occasions, I think it could work… but it will take years for it to come to fruition. In the meantime stuff is going to cost much more and there are the retaliatory moves waiting to be made. I’ve given examples in our industry (from C level types) warning of what may happen if the tariffs are enacted. It gets ugly for businesses and that means that it gets ugly for consumers. We have a business and I guarantee that I pass along the additional costs with my regular mark up which becomes an even greater amount for our clients. I will make more money per order. But this is the game being forced upon us.

He can probably run a business better than I, but we're talking macroeconomics here, not micro.

He loves to spend your money.

Must’ve forgot how he had china on a leash four years ago. All you fear mongers can sky scream

I haven't forgotten anything.

According to the Tax Foundation his first round of tariffs cost American consumers higher prices, jobs, and American businesses market share.

That's not a theory. It's already happened. It's not "fear mongering," because it's not a prediction about something we don't know about for sure. It already happened. We know the results.

Now he's talking about significantly increasing the tariffs. I'm supposed to believe (because you told me), that it won't just increase the already increased prices, lost jobs, and lost market share proportionately?

That would be dumb as hell.

And you people who think it would be a victory to move manufacturing back to America, why do you people think those jobs went somewhere else in the first place?

Because labor costs were significantly cheaper. What happens when you have to pay the labor costs here?

The prices go up.

Whether we're talking about because of 100% tariffs or whether we're talking about because the average worker who produces the goods gets paid $20 an hour instead of $2 an hour.

Tell me what the flaw an ANY of that is. What am I missing? What reasoning mistake have I made?

Like I've told y'all who like these tariffs before, this is a game of chicken. And until someone blinks, both sides take damage. We'll take damage until China backs down and reduces their tariffs. If that happens quickly, great, Trump wins. If they hold on a while to punish us, there's simply no other scenario that can happen...it's going to hurt us.

And "bringing manufacturing jobs back" is not a win. That's one of the things that China could do to hurt us, actually. That = permanently higher prices.

The only win is if we get China (and others) to reduce their tariffs.

Think tank. Don’t trust them at all. Therefore, all your arguments based on that information is compromised

Muh higher prices. Even if I assume your correct it’s still better than being a Chinese economic colony
