And those wonderful north koreans.
That's quite a collection of the world's most toxic axis to be in bed with no matter how I look at it.
I can't fathom Trump's weakness for Putin. Putin has done massive harm to Russia and it will take generations to repair the damage.
He has also made Russia weak while a strong China covets getting their former territories back. In the late 1960's, they fought a war over that.

The constitution explicitly grants Congress the power to regulate commerce with a foreign country. Financial sanctions are a restriction on foreign commerce. Congress willingly delegates a lot of that power to the Executive because responding to global threats by committee isn't very efficient.
Make no mistake abt it though, Congress has the legal authority to mandate that the Executive impose financial sanctions. See CAATSA.
Good point.
The Graham Act - which is what the OP is discussing - has a National Interest Waiver, which means Trump is within the law on this.
But the diesel importation is far less firm. CAATSA really does not touch importation of diesel, but the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act does not carry the waiver. Congress was very clear that such sanctions could only end when Russian hostilities ceased against Ukraine. And even then, it gave Congress 30 days to overrule any such determination by the President.

How about Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Pakistan, our old friend Asad in Syria? Or our old friend Saddam in Iraq? Or our old CIA bag man friend Noriega in Panama? Or our Islamist friends in Afghanistan? And the authoritarian dictatorship country that wrecked our nation and let loose a bio weapon that killed millions was just given the royal treatment and honored at The White House. The list goes on and on.
We’re like the scumbag senator lecturing Michael on morality…

No.
Putin is long in the tooth for some Russians now but he is still the guy who made Russia relevant again and brought them more prosperity after the 1990s which are almost universally recognized by Russians as the low point in their lives when the West ran roughshod over them and they were powerless to do anything about it.
