Yep. This tells me it was second hand info. Not directly from the memo.

you honestly think comey VERBALLY told his buddy what was said to trump who then VERBALLY relayed that at a later time to the NYT yet they got the exact syntax and phrasing from the memo?

You think the NYT would have held back the Flynn stuff? Because that was by far the biggest story when this broke.

I seem to remember reports around the time the news of the existence of the memos broke that the friend was dictating portions of the memos to the press. This also explains why the "Flynn is a good guy" leak came later. So we should say that Comey did not leak the memos to the press in full, but instead gave the memo to his friend with instructions to leak portions of the memos to the press. So...how is that better or substantively any different?

Yea....it does. That person may not have given the NYT the memo at that point, but it was still leaked to the NYT that (a) there was a memo, and (b) that memo says Trump told Comey that he hoped Comey would "let Flynn go"
