He certainly taught Governor Abbott that the time to allow straight ticket voting on ballots has long passed.
That's why it is no longer on the ballot as of 2019.

It had been in the works for a while, but in 2018, the Texas Government basically said that 2018 would be the final year that voters would be allowed to vote "straight ticket".
A lot of Democrats won seats in Texas they wouldn't otherwise have even been in contention for because of idiotic straight ticket voting. (An individual literally won from prison)
Currently, you can no longer fill in a bubble marked "All Democrat" or "All Republican".
