The desires of the heart often carry cost. The cost of crossing into the U.S. with a child asking for asylum is some separation time while things are verified and arrangements made. The Asylum seekers are from central America not Mexico. The asylum seekers could and legally should seek asylum in Mexico.

Child separation has been happening as a matter of CBP policy since long before Trump became president.
