Trump's comments came as Justice Department lawyers are scrambling to meet a court deadline on Friday afternoon to come up with a legal pathway for including the question — a reversal that was spurred by an irate tweet from the president earlier this week urging officials to press forward despite a Supreme Court ruling and public statements from the Justice and Commerce departments that the question would not be included.
"The News Reports about the Department of Commerce dropping its quest to put the Citizenship Question on the Census is incorrect or, to state it differently, FAKE!" Trump tweeted on Wednesday. "We are absolutely moving forward, as we must, because of the importance of the answer to this question."

I don't even understand why this is even debatable. It's a fricking single question.
The answer isn't going to send INS to people's homes.
Answering the question honestly and providing proof of citizenship in some form is a no brainer.
I have to provide ID to buy a sixer at the convenience store. Yet illegal immigrants can answer a census dishonestly and increase the distribution of government funds to the state in which they squat.
It's total bullshite.

Doesn’t this feel like a trap regarding the power of using an EO to anyone else?
If the SC says this is an over reach, then the same argument would be made against the EOs made by Obama, such as DACA, and if not it gets on the census..

I would argue that the cause of the democrats issue with this is that if it is included, there is a very real chance that we learn that there are MILLIONS more illegals than people think. Not 10-12 million but more like 35-40 million.
Millions more might make some fence sitters (no pun intended) agree that border protection is necessary. And the dems lost the ability to stack the electorate...
