Non elastic goods when it comes to pricing. Someone who is looking for a bargain on holiday lights. The buyer takes a look at his chinese supplier and says you give me a lower price so I can offset the tariff and give the consumer the same price OR I go to Vietnam, Burma, etc. And trust me those suppliers are already contacting the buyer. So the US importer may "technically" pay the tariff, but it is with the chinese supplier's funds in the way of a lower price.

Link? Sounds like wishful thinking and something the Trump admin would spin to downplay the downstream effects to the US consumer.

Nope.

I agree, but Trump's tarriffs are actually working to stimulate our economy. He has shown he knows how to make things happen through targeted use of tariffs. There is no observable way to say otherwise.

Thread title is false

China isn't paying us anything in tariffs.

Its a tax. Companies and people pay it.

What is a tariff?

A tariff is a tax on imported goods. Despite what the president says, it is almost always paid directly by the importer (usually a domestic firm), and never by the exporting country.

I have no problem with optional taxes. Don't want to pay it? Buy American.

Y’all on the left insist that tariffs are taxes on consumers because suppliers pass on tax cost to consumers in higher prices.

Traditionally, it was also the left that supported protectionist policies like tariffs. They’re just against them currently because Trump is doing it. They aren’t intellectually consistent because they’re emotional people.

Surely you see the irony in mocking the left’s current position on tariffs while ignoring that those on the right are now for them (you know the party that traditionally favors free trade and markets).
