Trump: “China is paying us Billions in Tariffs”

Today Trump said that China is paying us “Billions and Billions in tariffs”.
Tariffs are paid by US importers, the Chinese government pays nothing.
Can any of you explain what he meant by that?

They aren't a capitalistic country.
Posted on 1/4/19 at 6:21 pm to Spirit Of Aggieland
He's implying they're paying for it indirectly as it makes their products less competitive.

This is what bugs me
Y’all on the left insist that tariffs are taxes on consumers because suppliers pass on tax cost to consumers in higher prices. That is true
Yet you guys turn around and insist minimum wage laws, corporate tax rates, regulations, etc are paid by businesses. Except consumers ALSO pay for these things in form of Lower wages and higher prices.
It makes me want to pull my hair out that you cannot see the similarly between a tariff and, say, minimum wage laws

That's pretty cool. Not being a smart-arse, but if that's the case should we reroute those funds for border security?

Consumers also benefit from the minimum wage laws (kinda...), tax-funded services, and regulatory protections. Tariffs reduce competition and raise prices.. a lose-lose for the consumer.

Can't we male Nancy Pelosi use some of that money to pay for the Wall?
And all the tariffs from Mexico!

He means he either actually thinks that they pay it, or that people are stupid enough to believe him. He's said it too many times for it to be a case of mis-speaking

You’ve never imported anything, have you?

Using progressive's own language to lull them into a less triggered state.
The same thing happens when you "RAISE TAXES ON THE 1%!!!!!', the 1% passes the expense down to consumers. But progressives don't understand that. Funny how they understand this...

Tariffs also result in employment of Americans instead of foreigners. It’s not so black and white as slightly higher prices being the only effect.

No. Because china isnt paying us billions.
Additionally, isnt making nancy pelosi pay for the wall what he is currently trying, and failing, to do right now?

gains in industries that benefit from the tariffs are offset by losses in the industries that are harmed by them.
even if it increases employment in the US it harms the average US consumer. it certainly helps the wealthy though.

No, all of those laws raise prices, tariffs simply artificially impose those laws on imported products.
If we’re willing to rid ourselves of high corporate taxes, government sponsored union protections, heavy handed environmental laws, etc., then our products would be just as cheap as those manufactured in China.
But you want all those “moral” laws (whether they be right or wrong) AND you don’t want to have to pay for them. So you buy from somewhere that doesn’t have them.
I say crank the tariffs through the roof to equalize our government imposed price inflations on all our products and let every single consumer in the country financially feel the effects of all of our crazy laws ... maybe then we’ll realize we really don’t like all of them and start thinning that shite out.

They're a terrible thing for the economy.
The only remote use they have is as a weapon to get all tariffs dropped altogether.

Let's rewind to the 40-50's so we can all live in a shithole and die from cancer while we're at it
At least the poorly made shite we buy at the store will be a bargain

He said the money was going to the US Treasury. He wasn’t implying anything.

It's the ravings of a lunatic. It's gotta be the 25th amendment time, already. Sheesh.

used unilaterally, they're consistently worthless if this is your aim
history confirms

This is exactly right. He knows anyone that believes this are completely economically illiterate. He knows the base he wants to keep motivated just like Obama knew his base with the Travon Martin deal.
