He should say something along the lines of:
Were these men perfect? No.
Were these men without fault? No.
Did some of them do things that were legal then but unacceptable today? Yes.
But that doesn't diminish what they did.
The sacrifice they made.
The overwhelming importance of their role in creating the greatest nation on Earth.
They may have had flaws, but they were great men
