Because he actually cares about first responders and wants to show support. If it were merely to score political points, it would be a wasted effort in current NYC.
The rank and file of most LEOs and firefighters overwhelmingly support the Orange one.
There are people who are actually waking up though, and will see that the MSM Narrative Control Apparatus will run wall to wall stories about Retard, Clinton and Hussein Soerto all being in the same building, but will absolutely ignore the fact that Trump showed up to pay tribute to a fallen officer. I'm telling you, once people start seeing this shite, they can't unsee it.
