The Trump administration fired a federal prosecutor on Wednesday, less than an hour after he was appointed to lead the United States attorney’s office in Seattle, setting the stage for a likely legal battle.

Federal judges in the Western District of Washington had unanimously appointed Roger Rogoff to be the Justice Department’s top official there, filling a vacancy that the president has never addressed. But the Trump administration has largely defied attempts by federal judges to fill vacancies, leading to Mr. Rogoff’s swift dismissal, via email, after 54 minutes.

Unlike in similar Trump administration firings, Mr. Rogoff has retained an employment law firm and is weighing a legal fight over his dismissal.

Such a challenge would almost certainly entail a lengthy, difficult court battle and raise the extraordinary prospect that a U.S. attorney could operate quasi-independently of the Trump administration. It could also mean that Charles Neil Floyd, the first assistant United States attorney who has been the Trump administration’s pick to lead the office, could eventually have to answer to Mr. Rogoff.

But he was also critical of the administration’s practice of circumventing the Senate’s role in approving top federal prosecutors.

Always a smart move when you’re trying to get the job. How stupid are these people to say that when gunning for the top job?

The nerve!

How dare Trump actually abide by the concept of separation of powers?

If Mr. Rogoff has retained counsel to represent him against his employer then he now has a conflict of interest against his employer, the U.S. government.

More of that "blue slip" nonsense. So you end up with liberal federal judges in Washington. Then to hire the head of the justice department for the state you have to have the approval of two democratic senators. If you dont designate a liberal one the senate wont approve and the liberal federal judges "appoint" someone to their liking.

Should have known the new york slime was the source. The president did not "neglect" to appoint someone, he was blocked by the blue slip and the senate remaining in "session" so he could not appoint.

Same thing happened in Eastern District of Virginia. He just put in an interim appointment and thats just what Blanche is doing here. This clown the judges are trying to put in place.......has no standing (ah I love it when the good guys can say this).

More new york slime reporting. The president is not "circumventing" he is trying to do a job and the senate "blue slip" nonsense is stopping him. And he cant appoint himself because Thune is keeping the senate "in session" even when they are on vacation.

This quagmire of a do nothing senate is a feature not a bug.

The Left has some serious dirt on Thune. He’s got the ‘look’ of an easy target for a honey pot or grifting scam. Tillis too. Would be good if they can be proven to be in the ‘Grand Conspiracy’ loop which Trump is going to outline as a National Security threat tonight.

Dem Party is going all in Commie. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out in elections where voter rolls and ballots cannot even be viewed and validated. When non-working people are able to vote money out of working people’s pockets things will change big time.

I think the line will be drawn tonight and that much ballyhooed ‘civil war’ officially kicks off. Cold version, likely getting progressively hotter.

Blue slips aren't even a Senate Rule (or a Committee Rule). They are "tradition."

frick Grassley and Thune. They have kneecapped this Administration more effectively than the Dems ever could.
