Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday declined a request by the Democratic chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives tax committee to testify next week about the partial government shutdown’s impact on the upcoming federal tax filing season.
“If the purpose of the upcoming hearing is to inform Congress and the public, we are confident that goal will be best served by testimony from the senior department officials with the deepest and broadest expertise on the subject of the hearing,” Jennifer Bang, Treasury deputy assistant secretary, said in the letter to Neal, which was released by the panel. '
We all know that the purpose of the upcoming hearing is NOT to inform the public but rather to have another go at POTUS, make it be another POTUS bashing opportunity without taking any responsibility for the very partial governmental shutdown. So, well done Treasury!

Good, he should tell them he’s busy working on the shutdown and doesn’t have time to comply

Meh he should negotiate for a few weeks concerning when he will or won't show up, it's the proven way.

Response should have been.
"While I look forward to testifying in front of Congress, this is not the right time to do so. As there is currently no end in sight of the current Government shutdown we can not give an accurate depiction of the current shutdown's effect on the economy nor issues that "may" arise with the IRS and tax filings.
It is my hope that Congress takes this time to come together and work out a compromise to protect our furloughed Federal employees and citizens instead of holding gotcha, grandstanding committee meetings that amount to nothing other than a waste of time that should be spent in honest, meaningful negotiations."
