I want to thank my fellow vets and please join me in paying respects to those who have shed blood or made the Ultimate Sacrifice for this great country of ours.
Purple Heart Day on August 7 commemorates the day in 1782 when General George Washington created the Purple Heart Medal – a military decoration that is awarded to those wounded or killed while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
The holiday also encourages people to pay their respects to fallen soldiers, to listen to the stories of soldiers and veterans, and to thank them for their service to the nation.

Remember when they said they wanted to give Strzok a Purple Heart?

I can't believe that Dem congressman wanted to give Peter Strzok a Purple Heart. SHAMEFUL!

Exactly this
Reading the title of the thread I was SURE it was about standing in front of Congress and getting a PH for being a dirtbag.

Crazy how many actors who made it big in early Westerns were Purple Heart recipients.
Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, James Garner, Russell Johnson

Spoken like the true Patriot you are, Mike!

Listening to my f-i-l talk about his 38 months as a POW in North Korea was both gut and heart wrenching at the same time. Shooting soldiers and nuns in the back of the head and leaving them where they dropped when they could no longer walk during the death marches had me tearing up incessantly.

I'm embarrassed to say I was awarded one. Not because of any heroics on my part, just some half arse wannabe got a lucky shot when firing at some US soldiers in the middle of nowhere. Yes he got his arse lit up after.

Thank You Robert Mueller for taking gunshot wounds and continuing to lead his platoon!! You took enemy fire while saving fellow marines instead on deferments and playboy bunnies. We all thank you for fighting so we can argue like idiots on tgus board.
God Bless You!!!!

You just couldn't leave politics out of just one thread that deserves no politics in it could you? Congrats.

When I was growing up, both neighbors living on either side of us received Purple Hearts in World War II. One was a Sherman tank driver in Italy, and later in France. The other was on a battleship in the Pacific.
I remember the Navy one had a scar across his chest. In early 1945 off of the Philippines, his ship was bombarding Japanese positions on Luzon. He was manning a 20mm anti-aircraft gun when a Jap kamikaze struck the ship. He said at that moment, it seemed like everything went into slow motion. He said a single piece of shrapnel came towards him. He was strapped into the gun, so all he could do was lean back as far back as he could. It was just enough; the shrapnel cut him straight across the chest, but not deep enough to cut anything important. He then said that after the shrapnel went past him, everything seemed to go back into real-time. He told me that was the strangest, most intense moment of his life. Maybe only in retrospect did it seem like everything was in slow motion, or because of the intensity of the situation his brain processed it that way. Anyway, he said he bled like a stuck pig but they patched him up and he was back on duty that evening.
Tough old coots those men were.

Yea I guess leaving the somewhat safety of a swiftboat to run down a VK with a B-40 rocket launcher and kill him with his bare hands and saving the entire crew from death is decent reason to make fun of Kerry and a hang nail you made up. fricking idiot! Would have liked to see your sorry arse do that. SMH
