Had 7 years to come up with a health care plan. Why not work on the plan instead of just bitching about it for 7 yrs

I did. Empathy has no place in this matter. We can't afford it. And people have never been "dying in the streets" in this country because they were turned away.

As I recall, former Senator Landrieu was turned to get this damn thing passed in the first place with the "Louisiana Purchase."

It cost her a Senate seat, but made her a rich(er) woman.

The three that said no immediately. I feel confident that a few others wouldn't vote for this measure - heller for instance. But what about portman? Maybe gardner.

Just to be clear, the GOP was not a vote or two away from repealing the ACA today.

Three GOP Senators were publicly against the repeal. Several more GOP Senators opposed the Republican bill but figured that they didn't need to incur the backlash that comes with publicly opposing it. Rather, they stayed quiet and allowed it to fail. This way, the bill's failure cannot be pinned on them.
