Thomas Jefferson's hometown of Charlottesville, VA will no longer mark his birthday

[Apologies if this has been discussed (in which case, toss this thread an anchor); I’ve searched the site for “Jefferson” and “Charlottesville” And didn’t see anything.]
—————
Am I the only one who finds this incredibly sad?
FOUR people made this decision.
Jefferson owned slaves; and that’s a rotten thing.
But I’m betting that he wouldn’t do so today.
Where does it stop?

WSJ: Charlottesville’s Complicated Relationship With Thomas Jefferson
quote:
The Virginia city, enveloped in the legacy of the Founding Father, will no longer mark his birthday on April 13 as an official holiday. It will instead celebrate Freedom and Liberation Day on March 3, commemorating when thousands of slaves were emancipated in 1865 after Union forces arrived in the city near the end of the Civil War.
We’re making sure the historical perspective is told from the black viewpoint, and being unwavering about our viewpoint of that,” Mayor Nikuyah Walker, who is Charlottesville’s first African-American female mayor, said in an interview this week.
The city council agreed to stop recognizing the holiday in a 4-1 vote Monday, just days before the Fourth of July—the national holiday celebrating the Declaration of Independence, penned largely by Jefferson.

Ridiculous

The answer is it doesn’t stop. The people doing these things don’t actually have a cause or something they stand for. Everything they do is out of a sense fullfilling their own vanity.

Yes
They’re all looking for their Rosa Parks moment, except, all the great battles have been fought, and won. And so they’re left to invent these increasingly ludicrous causes that they can champion.
They fact that a bunch of bourgeois white people from up north are all looking to come down south and save the black man is hilarious.
It’s also telling.
These people are beyond patronizing. And have no perception of the damage they’re doing to the black community.
But never mind that, the crusade must go on.
I don’t particularly understand why they feel obligated to move to a place where they hate the people, and the culture. I’m assuming they’re fulfilling Cotton Mathers mandate.
They don’t understand why they believe what they believe, which isn’t unusual per se. But I think they would be somewhat surprised to find that they are in fact, highly religious people, worshiping Puritan values (and a secular Puritan god).
Historians have argued, and I think it’s true, that the war between the states was simply a continuation of the English civil war. Another round of Cavaliers vs Round Heads.
So maybe this is us just losing the last battle to an enemy we’ve been fighting for almost 400 years.
I guess we had a good run?

What happens to MLK’s legacy after his FBI tapes are released to the general public. I’ve heard the tapes have some really disturbing content including a rape where MLK is heard in the background delivering a real bang up sermon.

Exactly. It will never stop.

What happened about living in harmony?
It seems everything is about revenge these days.

Some thought it would stop with the removal of Confederate flags. That was just the first salvo.

Well, culture is zero sum, and it’s us vs them.
Either they stamp us out, or they don’t.
And if we’re going to survive, we need to get very serious, very quickly.

Puritan harmony is like Han Chinese harmony.
Embrace the mono culture!
Because it’s the only option they’ll give you.

Pretty much
This whole SJW/progressive movement we've seen take off the past couple years is pretty much just narcissism run amok.

We need some bone shattering hardship to rectify the situation.

We are going in the wrong direction. I don't know if it can be reversed. Breaks my heart and pisses me off!

Discredit Jefferson, discredit the Constiturion. Discredit the Constitution, then it’s time to abolish it or revamp it. I think that’s one of the main things they’re after.

As friend once said, things went to hell when we abandoned dueling.

What's next for Charlottesville? Burning down Monticello? The University of Virginia?

Eventually white people are going to have to stand up and defend themselves otherwise this country will be overrun by Muslims and Illegal Immigrants. The clock is ticking.

THE SECOND COMING
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
- William Butler Yeats

That’s an interesting choice.
Yeats was an Irish nationalist.
But he was Anglo-Irish, Anglican, and not Catholic.
After independence, the Catholics stamped out his people.
