She's not wrong on the contradictions, but there is some missing context there.
When the Clinton's and Obama were opposed to illegal immigration it was to ensure Union support and labor interests in general. Labor Unions feared the importation of cheap labor that would devalue American workers and wages.
At some point during the Obama Administration, the Democrats completely walked away from Labor. Those votes went to Trump and he carried the rust belt to victory.
Having lost that election, one might think that the political left would return to their labor, blue collar roots. That has not happened and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The leftists now demand "due process" for illegals, provide food and shelter, and block attempts at deportation. It's an absolute 180 from who they were as recently as 2012.

Yes. Mexico was not occupied by the French. French soldiers propped Maximillian up for a time, but Mexico was never under French administration.
Regardless, Cinco de Mayo still has nothing to do with Mexico’s independence, either from the Spanish or in the overthrow of the Habsburgs.

A bunch of chicks go out and drink margaritas... and dudes go out to binge drink margs, tequila and Modelos, and try to frick them. That's pretty much the extent of the holiday.

so the “Second French Intervention” was not an occupation? Is that your assertion? Or do you deny there was a time period called the “Second French Intervention?”
I suppose my point would be that the intervention was not an occupation. They put a Habsburg on the throne to counter rising US power and the spread of republicanism, with full invitation and support from Mexican royalist conservatives. Maximillian ruled as a Mexican leader, with no ties to Paris, with Mexican institutions and Mexican nobility.
But we’re still afield of the point that Cinco de Mayo doesn’t have anything to do with Mexican independence, and not even anything to do with the overthrow of Maximilian.

CNN reports Mexicans are skipping Cinco de Mayo celebrations out of fear of being deported.
I was having a moderately crappy day. And then I read this. And now I have to admit I'm amused and in a better mood.

Stupid celebration marketed to sell liquor and tacos to Americans. Most people have no idea what it represents.

I'm so old I remember when CNN had credibility.
