None of this means anything. With covid stuff, election day voting will be way down. Also i think many people are like me and have figured out that if you vote early, you can vote at your convenience and not have to wait in lines. Its a growing trend but i dont think you can glean any useful predictions from it.

I'm not sure how anyone gets excited about voting for Biden or Trump?

The early voting period is not over. It may be premature to make any comparison except early voting numbers in 2016 at this date versus today. The OP is not making that comparison. From the information in this thread we can't draw any valid conclusions.

There will likely be more votes this year, but you cannot compare the early voting and mail in to previous years unless you can tell me, specifically, how many of that 267k asked for and returned mail in ballots.

This year cannot be compared to any previous years.

You are correct. The 2016 info published does not give any mail-in info. It just lumps that in with the 'early' stats. After digging a little further though, my county is really HEAVY in early voting. Early voting accounted for 80% of the total vote in 2016.

That's how we do it in MS. Paper ballot filled in with a pencil then fed into a scanner. Also no early voting

Yep. I always ask the elderly gentleman that stands at the scanner “this isn’t the shredder is it?” as a joke. He never gets the joke and never remembers me. Always replies. “No, this is where you put the ballot”. Replies with the same line every time.

Why didn’t he compare the current numbers to the percent of ballots that were cast 2 weeks before the last election? That’s very obviously the number we need to have if we want to say whether or not there is a surge

Because a lot of people who voted in person last time voted by mail this time due to COVID. Wouldn’t be an accurate comparison.

Most likely Covid-19 protocols make voting a slower process, thus making the line to get in longer.

Social distancing and technology does not always make things faster. I'm for going back to paper ballots so votes aren't stored in Spain where they can be manipulated

Our polling station does paper ballots only. Wait times for early voting have been 45 minutes - 2 hours due to distancing protocols and time required to complete paper ballot.
