because it's so much more valuable for a woman to be seen as a rape victim than not.

if it wasn't valuable to some women, we wouldn't have so many examples of women lying about being raped

i hope we can agree on that

Remember - if 20% of all college women are sexually assaulted - someone is doing the assaulting, right? That's what I usually think about whenever I hear someone claiming to be a man who minimizes sexual assault against women (and in this case is paid to do it)

20% of women are NOT sexually assaulted.

All of the women on this board are pretty far to the right.

The example he used, liar, to demonstrate his point was a matter of rape.

No, his example to demonstrate his point was a matter of a woman claiming to have been raped. The woman's testimony uses unclear, uncertain language, which of course could be for any number of reasons ranging from post-assault trauma to dishonesty. Examples like these are cited in the statistics that tell us that only ~12% of rapes are reported. That is, the statistics assume that the woman in this example is being truthful and that she in fact has been raped, and it is a very hasty, harmful assumption.

Examples like these undermine the purpose of statistics in the first place, and when we are dealing with a matter so serious as rape, statistics that are compiled using such uncertain examples simply cannot be trusted, and, therefore, the suffering of women continues thanks to people like you.

Did you look into how he cooked the books?

He shows that crime report statistics for Ohio State are inconsistent with the survey - but he uses ONLY reports of sexual assault within the jurisdiction of campus police - completely ignoring the fact most sexual assaults of college students occur off campus.

Yes he did, and probably deliberately.

Yes, my friend, when we publish rape statistics that are compiled from unreliable examples, women are hurt.

Wipe that fricking smile off your face and show women the respect that they deserve.

Do you think Crystal Gail Mangum (Duke Lacrosse) should have been prosecuted for her rape lie?

Sure, but the problem with George Will's article is that he paints with too broad a brush.

Women who have actually been sexually assaulted, the important part of the victimhood, certainly do not covet that position, and their hurt far exceeds any incidental consideration which you and others have labeled here a "privilege".

Which ignores his entire point. That women who have not actually been sexually assaulted are given privilege. And those who are falsely accused of sexual assault are denied simple protections.

That isn't what Will said. You're really doing some acrobatics today.
