True, but Congress was a lot more powerful as an institution in the era you’re referring to. Congress today is weak and largely ceremonial. The executive and judicial branches hold the real policy making power today.

I'm still amazed at how almost every representative seemingly becomes a business genius.. They can go from nothing... to becoming a millionaire soon after taking office.
It's even more of a spit in the face when despite being millionaires through obviously corrupt means, they pass shite to give themselves bonuses.
