The opposition party always has the enthusiasm edge

Below is a chart representing mid-term seat swings in the House of Representatives over the last century or so.
The incumbent President's party almost always loses seats and usually loses a bunch of them.
The party that holds the Presidency gets fat and lazy. The party that doesn't hold the Presidency gets angry and motivated.
The ironic thing of course is that the President is usually reelected, even following huge midterm losses.
It will be no different in 2018, Dems will make healthy gains in the house, perhaps even taking it back by a small margin.
People will declare it the "end of Trump" just like I heard how the 1994 midterms were the end of Clinton and the 2010 midterms were the end of Obama, etc.
Normal political cycles, but don't let that interrupt your preferred narrative.

Except that even w/the White House, Senate, and House the Reps are still the outsiders according to the dominant culture that controls media and academia

Well yes, the media has become unhinged the past few years.
They were always left wing but did their best to put out this faux 'balance' and impartiality.
The over bias really cranked up under W. then under Obama it went into light speed and now under Trump it has gone to ludicrous speed.

The Dems might take the House but it's still a huge uphill climb. The districts still heavily favor the Republicans after they were re-drawn after 2010. The Dems have no shot of taking the Senate with how many seats they have up compared to the Repubs.

The only Republican seats needing watching are Nevada and Arizona.
Democrats have to worry about Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Fox, Breitbart, Infowars, etc do a great job of keeping white guys perpetually angry, upset, and politically active with manufactured outrage (see NFL kneeling). They make sure you always feel like you're being oppressed so that you have a reason to vote. It's major advantage R's have over D's.
They've got you trained. You're loyal soldiers and you believe what they tell you do believe. I'm not even trying to convince you to change your ways, it's a hopeless cause.

You could change fox, breitbart, and infowars to the democrat party and change white guys to black people and the sentence works the same.

Blacks vote 95-5 for Democrats, pretty sure if any group in this country is loyally trained it's them.

It might have to do with the President calling a bunch of Nazis "very fine people", among other things.
