On the other hand, Mueller could say "Yep, we did our part, found indictable crime and elected to hold Trump accountable...time and money not wasted. Unfortunately due to no fault of our own, SC shot it down." This matter is ripe for SC interpretation to settle it once and for all.
ETA: This was just clearly not the case to take up on the issue. Would have been quite embarrassing for Mueller.

Mueller didn't look for "collusion". He looked for a criminal conspiracy and found that the evidence he found didn't rise to a level of beyond a reasonable doubt.
