My bad, thought NSA WAS the government.

It does indeed collaborate with the government. Sorry my all caps button is broken.

Why is a program about secretly spying on the US classified?
The telephone metadata program is an anti-terrorism program that can map communications made by a "dirty", ie terrorist, phone number overseas to a number within the United States. It certainly doesn't provide a failsafe against attacks but is one of many tools used by the IC.
This program is the only program revealed by Snowden that is "inward looking". It's highly overseen and has been regularly briefed to Congress over the years.
But it doesn't really do much good if every terrorist knows about it.

I'm splitting hairs, but the bottom line is we only have info from a guy who worked at NSA Hawaii for a short time

If he gives the "there are corollaries" line, there are also grounds to prosecute him for tacitly admitting the existence of a classified program.
THE QUESTION WAS SUBMITTED TO CLAPPER IN ADVANCE
do you not understand?
If he thought fielding it would entail jeopardy, he could have requested Feinstein relegate it to closed session.
He didn't. That was no accident.

No, we don't. We only have info that a guy who worked at NSA, Hawaii for a short time acquired. That's a subtle difference but an important one.
What you're saying is like saying that we only had info from a guy who worked at RAND corporation for a few years, or only had info from a couple of Washington Post reporters.

What would you have everyone do? We finally got some info from Snow, and it was not good info. Would you prefer us be in the dark about the evil our government is doing?
No one is forcing you to stay here. If you honestly believe our government is "evil", then I suggest you pack your shite and GTFO. You can go find true freedom in Russia just like Snowden.

You tell me. How has my life been negatively affected by the NSA? And I expect this to be something that is measurable.

Once again, the question is: What is the government doing with the data it collects on you, PVnRT?

They're using it to triangulate my everyday movements so they can round me up and send me to a FEMA concentration camp.

The stunning fact is you are naive enough not to care.

[Senator Wyden]
"I hope we can do this with just a YES or NO answer because I know Senator Feinstein wants to move on.
Last summer, the NSA Director was at a conference, and he was asked a question about the NSA surveillance of Americans. He replied, and I quote here, 'the story that we have millions or hundreds of millions of dossiers on people is completely false.'
The reason I’m asking the question is, having served on the committee now for a dozen years, I don’t really know what a dossier is in this context.
So, what I wanted to see is, if you could give me a YES or NO answer to the question: Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?"
[James Clapper]
"No, sir."
[Wyden]
"It does not?"
[Clapper:]
"Not wittingly. There are cases where they could, inadvertently perhaps, collect -- but not wittingly."
This is what I understood was the question that Clapper lied about, and which Senator Wyden was astounded by the response. I don't see anything but a premeditated lie by Clapper.

You know what, I've changed my opinion. I quit believing in the boogeyman and the Great Pumpkin when I was 7. But lately, I've been listening to Hannity on my way home from work and participating on this board, so now I have resurrected my belief in the Boogeyman and realize how unfortunate my life has turned out because of the evil government that has oppressed me and my family. I need to see if my passports are still valid so I can sneak my family to Russia so I can do some Vodka shots with Snowden and we can chant "FREEDOM"!

Naw dude, I love everything they are doing. I love it all. In fact they need to do more to us that way we can all be happy.

...........
What do they do with the info?
Who knows.
For my part, our business sustained an unnecessary PITA in 2010. It involved the Cincinnati IRS office, and may or may not have been politically motivated. Our lawyers said that was their suspicion at the time. I was dubious aka naive. 3yrs and one Lois Lerner later, and I realize our lawyers likely had more basis for their suspicion than I realized.

We"re good now. I used to believe that evil was something the Nazi's did to the Jews. I used to believe our government acted in ways to protect us and our national security. But now I realize that the true evil is our government. I can't believe that we are actually openly posting this stuff on the internet for the Gestapo to see. We are screwed now.
