as a defensive mechanism against COVID19. The issue isn't that they were wrong, it's that some continue to think it's the smart thing to do when it literally has zero impact on slowing the spread. In fact, I'd argue it makes it worse now that it is warm out.

Not a single state that didn't completely shutdown besides essentials or have already opended up have had any issues besides a normal spread of viruses that have happended since humans have bee around.

Stupid liberals.

Believe all experts!!!

Unfortunately they sold Trump on believing the experts so now he has to go along with the sham of making it appear necessary.

Virtually everyone who appears on TV is now shackled into proving this wasn't one giant media driven farce of an overreaction.

All these solemn commercials about something that is going to end up with a death rate under 1% have been tiresome for a month. They will never stop. 10 years from now this will be spoken of like fighting off the Bubonic plague.

It is pretty simple going forward:

If you wish to self quarantine, feel free.

If you wish to wear PPE while in public, feel free.

If you wish to avoid establishments which are now conducting business as normal and customary, feel free.

If you choose to take the vaccine once available, feel free.

If you choose to believe those who disagree are reckless, feel free.

If you choose to live life in fear of dying, I have no words.

I have absolutely zero problem with the initial stay at home order. This was a brand new virus that we not only had no way of combating, but even little way of detecting. Given the virus’s novelty, and the complete lack of trustworthy data coming out of the only country in a position to quantify the spread, a highly risk averse approach made sense at the time.

Now I’m retrospect, that was clearly the wrong move. But given what we knew and when, I think trump and the governors nailed the appropriate time to shut down the country.

THAT SAID, anyone still refusing to begin reopening at this point is just a stubborn mule who refuses to admit that they made the wrong call (even if it was the correct wrong call to make) and are just trying to justify their initial over-cautiousness by inflicting further harm.

There's strong data to back this up. Namely, the New York study which suggested that 66% of people who came down with the virus after the lockdowns started caught it while sheltered at home. That right there should have told Cuomo all he needed to know about the effectiveness of the shelter in place order. He didn't seem to care, however, as the lockdown in New York continues.

But it is very interesting that the vast majority of people in that particular state caught the virus either in their home or in a nursing facility.

Back in January they panicked when they saw what was going on in China. Remember the footage of the Chinese building hospitals literally overnight ?

What they saw did not match with what the Chinese government saying so they did not know exactly what they were dealing with and we had no reason to believe that it was not some sort of biological weapon that had been released.

Because they didn't know exactly what it was and they relied on what turned out to be some faulty models they made the decision to shut everything down.

After that everything spiraled out of control because the political class got involved and proceeded to turn it into a money and power grab.

The upshot of this is to prove that the people in power are really no smarter than anybody else but uniquely skilled at being self serving.

Just an all around shitshow.

how in the hell would we be able to shut down the economy if we didn't force people to stay home?

If they weren’t locked down, they would have caught the shite in the subway. NY and other dense areas are different beasts.

Nah.
We got screwed into a bad place by the CDC test fiasco. Had to shutdown to ensure hospital capacity was not overwhelmed.

Where Trump and the rest have been weak is in reiterating purpose of the shutdown. The shutdown was NEVER about hiding out until there was no CV19 risk. It was simply to lower the chance of hospital capacity oversurge. The initial shutdown was planned for two weeks. Is ANYONE under the impression Fauci and Birx expected CV19 to be gone after those two weeks?

Every time a sniveling, cowering leftist raises questions about the safety of reopening, the answer should relate solely to hospital capacity.

I would go further than just being a "stubborn mule". Those that are continuing lockdowns, with the information that is out there now, are using this as a political tool to continue to incite fear among the population. Mail in ballots comes to mind as the end game.

Can't one just vote absentee? That alternative has been an option for as long as I can remember. Have never done so, is there some need to be present at some juncture?

As for mail in, I seem to remember a dust up about overseas ballots from the military not being delivered in a timely manner.

Well stated. This should be published as the new guidelines, and call it done. Of course, after the election, if not before, Pencilneck and Nancy will be off on some other farce, unless they just recycle muh ‘peachment

Yep the country was duped and crashed one of the best economies ever. The Who’s “Dont Get Fooled Again” needs to be the national theme song when they start banging the “second wave” drums this Fall.

I can understand the two weeks with all the unknowns...

Yeah, they shot their collective wads on this shutdown... Even most of the Karen's will not tolerate another, unless folks are dropping dead in the street and bodies are piling up literally...
