That’s ok. Like I said. You don’t have to call them Christians. This is just what they believe. Scientology doesn’t believe in the atonement or the resurrection.
Everyone always gets so sensitive about this. I’m just saying what they believe.

You going to say all the other weird things they believe, like they can become their own God?
Also they can say they believe in the holy trinity, but when their belief is the complete anti-thesis of 99% of modern Christians are they still believing in the same thing?
(No harm toward you as a person), its just ridiculous that somebody can say "I believe in Jesus Christ" but then you find out that their belief of Jesus is something akin to a 100 ft tall, giant flying spaghetti monster.

Yeah a lot of their beliefs are weird.
I’m not a religious person anymore at all, but I have dug into a lot of their religion in the past. I have great friends who are Mormon. And I see a lot of false things get said about them.
They are not traditional Christians no. they don’t believe in the traditional form of the trinity. And they have added a truck load of garbage into their beliefs. But based on the core of the religion, I do think they are Christians. And honestly, I think if they want to say they’re Christian, they should be able to say it. I don’t think it’s on anyone else to say otherwise.
My biggest question is, why is it so important for Christians to say they’re not Christian? I mean, the subject of it alone gets people so heated. They worship every word Christ ever said. They act more “Christian” than many “Christians” I know.
So my thing is, let’s get the facts straight on what they believe in and I really don’t care if they want to call themselves Christian.

Alright then stay out of religious discussions

They arent Christians
quote:
But based on the core of the religion, I do think they are Christians.
"I believe in Jesus, but Jesus wasn't God"
"I believe in the trinity, but they are actually 3 separate Gods"
" I can become my own God"

And honestly, I think if they want to say they’re Christian, they should be able to say it.
I mean sure they can say it, but at the end of the day, most Christian denominations will state they arent Christians. So cool I guess.
quote:

Because they say they are Christians when the vast majority of Christendom says they arent.

See point #2.

Me either, but the simple fact is they arent Christians

Me too, wife is a former Mormon. I dont discuss religion with them because its a cult. Very nice people, I pray they are saved despite their beliefs

I mean, if the definition of “Christian” is “one who worships Jesus Christ” ; then yes Mormonism is a form of Christianity . However, if we are defining Christian as also including the Holy Trinity , ok, that’s different.
So “the church” in the Roman didn’t essentially ratify the modern concept of the Trinity - one God, three persons, co-equal - until the council of Constantinople in the year 381. Before the council of Nicea in the year 325, it was not a consensus that Jesus was even divine in any way (like the Muslims believe of Jesus today) much less God. So if the Holy Trinity - not just the name, but the 3 x co-equal co-eternal persons in the one substance of God - was established in 381 and believe in such a thing is a requirement to be a Christian, what would you call the group that followed Jesus Christ before that year?

The Mormons have denied this for decades.

They arent Christians

I mean sure they can say it, but at the end of the day, most Christian denominations will state they arent Christians. So cool I guess.

Look, I get it. But it’s a label that someone can put in themselves if they want.
It doesn’t even have anything to do with character. A serial killer could become a born again Christian. I mean, if you believe in the atonement, that’s pretty much it. I don’t understand why the label is so important. It’s bizarre to me.

Can a man become a woman if he believes it hard enough? Its nonsense

I get the point.

To somebody with your level of indifference yet ignorance in terms of what constitutes Christianity. Sure.

Why don’t you tell me. What does one have to do to be Christian?
Now’s your opportunity to save us.

The “Christians” believe what they believe based on their own dogmas and not based on evidence (and despite the evidence). They have an innate need to feel validated, so their messages have to constantly be reinforced for them to feel good about themselves. Anyone with beliefs that they perceive to be “too different” than their own makes them angry as if those with different beliefs are actively rejecting their beliefs. Rejection of their core dogmas makes them sad. They have to make the ones that are too different not part of their group - to give them a different label that is not consistent with how they label themselves.
Baptists and Presbyterians do the same thing against Catholics and Orthodox. The evangelicals in America like to say the majority of the Christians on the planet aren’t actually Christians. It’s very stupid, from a group that routinely acts very stupidly.

Not what the Mormons believe. That'll get you in line with the other 95% of Christendom
Posted on 6/8/26 at 11:26 pm to gaetti15
Just 95%?
How do I get the other 5%?
How do I get the other 5%?

Jehovahs, Christian scientists, seventh day adventists.
Mormons are a pretty large group so they account for 99% of that remaining 5%

Fascinating. Thank you.
Most Christians tell me i just need to believe that Jesus died for my sins and I’m good to go. I guess those Christians were wrong. Dunno. I get different answers everywhere I ask.

Oh trust me. Most protestants dont agree with those restorationist groups either
Probably one of the most solid agreements Catholics have with protestants.
