We probably need an amnesty to bring capital that is parked offshore to really push it into overdrive,

That's in this bill already.

Except from what I can tell, it's got some limitations and it's not an amnesty.

It's 8% repatriation tax on illiquid assets and 15.5% on liquid assets.

So basically anyone with cash dollars held overseas get a one time chance to bring it back at only a 15.5% tax rate.

Not perfect (nothing is), but that will do.

Ehhhh most trucks already have ELDs. The ones that don’t are very small fleets and the net new the EDLs will be fairly minimal.

Plus most truck drivers today are solar drivers anyway (only drive when the sun is out). There aren’t nearly as many who push as hard as there were 15 years ago.

Hell my 77 year old Dad still drives when he wants and out runs guys 1/2 his age because it’s how he knows how to drive a truck versus some of the younger drivers.

Net impact on goods costs should be minimal on this last stage.

My experience has been the opposite, but I wont rule out the possibility. With the occasional outlier, I have never known drivers to prefer day-time driving to over night. Less cars on the road means, less traffic and congestion and that equates into maximizing their earning potential.

First off, props to you pops. Drivers are some of the hardest working men and women in america and if he is still getting out behind the wheel at 77, he has my respect (whatever that is worth). That said, after today he can't run circles around anyone if he is running an ELD. It puts him on the same footing as a driver right out of driving school. His advantages that would come from expertise and experience have been taken from him. Given his age, I would guess he is possibly running a 2000 or older truck and, if so, is not required to comply.

What I see is transportation costs rising simply due to capacity (hurricane relief, etc) that potentially raise costs. Not speculation but something I'm actually wrestling with.
