It seemed relevant enough for him to include it in the op. The question is why

Is NATO building it or is a NATO member (Romania) building it?
Best I can tell is that it is a collaborative effort…
Articles mention the base being planned and work begun by the NATO Investment Committee and also Romania financing much of the construction to the amount of anywhere from $2-2.5B.

Distract, deflect, divide. Care to comment on the larger point of the peoples' vote being lawfared and the initial election round being nullifiied?

Romania finds itself at the epicenter of a political maelstrom, following the unexpected cancellation of its presidential elections on December 6, 2024. The Romanian Constitutional Court cited alleged Russian interference as the rationale behind this drastic move, claiming that the favored candidate, Calin Georgescu, received undue support from Moscow through online channels. However, no concrete evidence has been presented to substantiate these claims, leaving the Romanian populace divided and disillusioned. The situation has taken on an international dimension, with US intelligence sources indicating that former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his assistant, James O’Brien, are under investigation for potential connections to this political fiasco. Allegedly, they, alongside former Romanian Foreign Minister Lumini?a Odobescu, lobbied to influence Romanian authorities to annul the elections. This raises questions about the extent of foreign involvement in Romania’s domestic affairs.
Amidst this chaos, Russia appears to be the only benefactor, as regional disorder aligns with its strategic interests. The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict further complicates the situation, with Moscow seemingly poised to exploit the instability in Romania to its advantage. LINK

Already did months ago in real time
Most counting in Europe have much different election systems than what we are used to. In typical American fashion, ours are more free and less regulated.

Do your own research, loser. Stop derailing threads with useless garbage and irrelevant nonsense.

I must've missed your brief but from the statement here, it sounds like you are implying there is nothing to see and move along. Everything is on the up and up.

Yes, counselor.

No my comments more that we had this discussion and many people just want to get dopamine hits from being emotional about it. This obsession with repeating things over and over again will never make sense to me outside of that paradigm

Do you consider spending level commitments, which have also been discussed repeatedly, to be a larger issue than the will of the people being overruled?
A simple yes or no will suffice.

There isn't a ranking of importance.

I thought a Romanian court just over-ruled the election court and put him back on the ballot.
If so, that court was overturned or invalidated too.
No, he’s still banned and under house arrest. From the BBC…

In February, US Vice President JD Vance sharply criticised Romania for that decision, sending shockwaves through a Romanian political establishment which leans heavily on its special relationship with the US. Georgescu was nevertheless barred from taking part in today's rerun.

If this is a common sentiment
I can see the conspiracy theories starting up again
If this is a common sentiment
quote:
"I can't really imagine Simion in here…" Ionut, a satirical writer, tells me beside an ornate waterfall, looking up at the palace walls. He voted for Simion in the first round of the election last November, out of anger at the constant delays to Romania's full membership of the Schengen free-travel zone. And frustration with Romania's outgoing president, Klaus Iohannis.
But Romania finally joined the Schengen land-borders on 1 January, and Iohannis stepped aside the same month. "Romanians are less angry now," he believes. He told his daughter he will vote for Nicusor Dan in this election, but hasn't quite made up his mind.
I can see the conspiracy theories starting up again

That's an impressive, but irrelevant and cowardly, dodge. I have to assume you know answering honestly would undermine whatever point it is you are trying to make.
Even if you consider them tied for first, or 1a and 1b it would still be a more honest response.

If I thought it was a better system, I'd live in Europe somewhere, but I don't.

Romania's GDP is $350 billion. 2.4 % of that is $8.5 million. No one is building a military base to accommodate 50,000 personnel for that paltry sum.
Dang, I'm complicit in the thread hijacking!

Are you saying the issue here is they just count the ballots weird?
