re: Texas Is About to Create OPEC's Worst Nightmare

In the early 1980s (height of the Austin Chalk), it was possible to walk from one end of my county to the other in the woods on a moonless night solely from the light of the gas flares.
We are almost there again with the Eagle Ford.

Someone needs to alert the SJW Mafia, just for entertainment purposes.

You guys will be an afterthought if the price/bbl keeps dropping. Sorry but that’s the reality of it.

Those pipelines will also help natural gas hugely. We already produce about 20% more than the ruskies, the largest producers, and our volume is growing almost 20% per annum now.
Its fricking scary the volume increases each week for oil and gas.
We also have several LNG export plants coming online. Those Europeans better bend a knee and get off that ruskie teat.

Muh peak oil!
I defer to cwill on these issues, but...
What kind of oil is this? If it's unconventional, then that does nothing to discredit peak oil. Are these like supergiant Saudi fields? Something like 40 of 54 oil producing countries are past peak. Now, I have never been anti drill baby drill guy. I'm just saying, I think this is one last shot in the arm from unconventional.

Energy: The shale oil “miracle” was a stunt enabled by supernaturally low interest rates, i.e. Federal Reserve policy. Even The New York Times said so yesterday (The Next Financial Crisis Lurks Underground). For all that, the shale oil producers still couldn’t make money at it. If interest rates go up, the industry will choke on the debt it has already accumulated and lose access to new loans. If the Fed reverses its current course — say, to rescue the stock and bond markets — then the shale oil industry has perhaps three more years before it collapses on a geological basis, maybe less. After that, we’re out of tricks. It will affect everything.

These guys will just pay cash. Almost all of the shale oil produced is here in the USA but that stuff is everywhere. It will be another 100 years before supplies get tight again.

Double edged sword for Texas. Oil extraction from traditional sources (e.g. OPEC) is cheaper than that from shale. Lower oil prices mean less exploration and drilling activity, and supporting businesses like hotels and restaurants are impacted as well.

We have too much onshore gas than we can handle as it is. Cost of production offshore is much higher per bcfm or bbl as you may know. There has been interest in offshore drilling bc oil was at 70-80 bucks. Not when it’s 50 and even less. No need to take my word for it, just have a look at the bell curve of rig count from 2013-today compare to the price of oil during those same times.

I tend to think shale oil has been marginally profitable at best although the end result has been positive for the country. I’ve been on working interest sides and seen how capital destructive many of these operators are. The Permian is really the only meaningful us tight oil field with any room to grow as the Eagle Ford and bakken are both past their prime. Shale gas is a different animal as it’s easier to move gas molecules through ultra tight rock than liquids. Rising interest rates will cut off capital to the shale oil drillers and we will see consolidation into the majors (who are prospect limited now) and growth will pull back to more sustainable rates. Base decline rates will be pretty steep by then and the growth will be over. It will end up being a good 10-15 year supply story but won’t make the us energy independent and probably won’t make much in the way of profits for investors along the way.

This hurts me because of my oil wells, they were not producing during the 100+ dollar a barrel days. They actually shut down two of them because the prices were not there in the market.
Sucks for me but good for ya'll. I just can't catch a break.

Only thing that really matters is the money that is made is recycled through the economy in some shape or form and not just sit in retirement accounts that are being maxed out right now and In the future. It’s a catch 22 either. To bad one is on the back end!
P.S. The Great McGinty is just starting on TCM!
