This advertisement is based on the demonstrable canard of a large gender wage gap. Scholarly research has demonstrated convincingly that the gender wage gap is very small or nonexistent, once one accounts for the effects of variables that affect wages in general. The claim underlying this advertisement gives lie to the contention that liberals are the defenders of science.

Frankly, Audi doesn't care what moderates and conservatives think about their advertisement. They target sales to those on the left, who believe in the myth of a widespread gender wage gap. They know that they can create brand loyalty without taking an economic hit by bringing up the gender wage-gap boogeyman.
