I thought this country was all about free speech and freedom! If you don't like him, don't go to the concert!

Canceling the venue is cowardly!

TED is an American hero, and he ain't worried about what LIBS think or do!

Cat Scratch Fever
Free For All
Stranglehold
Journey to the Center of Your Mind
Little Miss Dangerous

and if you don't know Terminus El Dorado you're missing out on some classic Ted.

I have seen Nugent a couple of times and just kills every time

Sounds like a venue issue because I refuse to believe the The Nuge isn't welcome in Birmingham

Absolutely. Just a hipster haven down there in Avondale. They are more Deathcab For Cutie down there.

I wonder if “bots” were released to flip things? It is a Facebook problem here and Facebook is known not to play nice.

I used to live in Highland area just blocks from there.

My youngest son, a musician, is moving to Avondale in June. He is solid hard metal even though he is wanting to break out in other directions - and he has done everything he has wanted to do so far..

Avondale is fine. Much preferred over Lakeview.

And the Brewery books acts from every genre. This is the first time I've known them to cancel on someone.

I need to start a crisis management consulting business.

I could make a fortune teaching these idiot companies how to act, what to say, etc.

What I believe you are referring to is East Lake, maybe? East Lake was prime BHAM suburb until the 60's when all the over the mountain locales developed under white flight..

Then the fringe areas of Southside, Highland, Forest Park, and now Avondale have resurged. Hipsterville.

Many people didnt know but Avondale was where the first Auburn-bama game was played in 1800-something.

Just a few blocks north was where the church was bombed in the Bull Conner 60's.

Two years ago I saw the girl that was in charge of concert tickets at Avondale Brewery get hit by a van in Avondale. It was her and two friends. One had a broke arm. One had a broke leg and the other friend got a direct hit and flew 20 feet in the air and died a few days later. They were at a crosswalk and walked into the road thinking the van would stop. The guy in the van had some major sun glare at that time of the day. Late in the afternoon and no leaves on the trees. I'm not sure if that girl is still working at the Brewery or not.

No. He's definitely talking about current hangout spots in Bham.

No it wasn't. It was off Highland Avenue near the Piggly Wiggly. There's a sign marking the spot.

Correct. Lou's, Innisfee, Side Bar, Oasis, etc.

Also correct. Though that area is kind of between Highland Park, Avondale, and Forrest Park.

which is the edge of Avondale and Highland Park?

Found this:

[quote]Earlier this week, a fantastic AL.com in-depth story about the history of the first Iron Bowl – Alabama-Auburn game revealed the historical marker on the corner of Clairmont Ave. and 32nd Street was missing. This is not any ordinary marker—it’s the marker recognizing where the first Alabama-Auburn Game was played.
seems that is the edge of Highland Park and Avondale - maybe used to be Lakeview at the time? I lived two blocks up the mountain from Highland golf course and was about 5 or six blocks from the historical marker..

Does this image not show the location of hole #8 of Highland Park Golf course where I developed one of three golf holes that forever haunted me out of the game? Tee on the top of the hill over forest to the green?

More like the edge of Forest Park, Highland Park, and Lakeview. Nobody from Bham would refer to this area as Avondale.

You both are not wrong. The homes behind Piggly Wiggly (built as an A&P) are considered a part of the South Avondale community, the homes on the hill across from the golf-course and adjacent to the Orthodox Church are part of Highland Park community while the homes east of the golf course are considered Forest Park.

As an aside, the “lake” of Lakeview is just a water hazard on Highland Golf Course today but like the duck pond at Avondale Park, it is spring fed. There is a massive culvert running down Clairmont Avenue that clogs up during heavy rains because the city does not regularly clean the culvert of debris and silt.

Here are two more historical photos I have framed from the same general location:

The first is a picture of the original Highland Park Country Club before it burned down in 1972. When first built at the turn of the century, the Highland Park Country Club was THE Birmingham Country Club before it relocated to Mountain Brook before the Great Depression.

The second is an image of the first Auburn-Alabama game. When I was a kid, I periodically attended an annual traveling circus in the open field which eventually became the campus of Central Bank’s headquarters.
