This shifts the market to other manufacturers. Maybe even Americans if the price point is shifted enough. Businesses will take advantage of the best economic situation and in this case, working with China has become slightly less advantageous.

Ultimately? China.

Once a solid trade deal is reached, these go away and the US consumer then benefits.

What you're trying to do is look at "ultimately" in the near-term. That's a short-sighted view and it's proven by my analogy in that using that view someone wouldn't get the shot because it would hurt too much (in the short-term).

Your stance suffers from a lack of longer perspective.

The US consumer will still suffer. It's a de facto tax to prop up certain industry at the cost of everything else

No. Short term individual industry is helped. Long term the consumer suffers. Prices will continue to rise.

Its vote buying, period

Tariffs are always bad

Ah, the ole us vs them fallacy.

Trade between nations , even if unilateral benefits a nation greatly and makes one wealthier.

These globalists don't care. They are all about propping up other countries (shitholes).

They are more interested in keeping more jingle in their pockets than having good jobs in this country.

No.. it's not a fallacy. Globalism is a redistribution of the wealth of middle America.

As you can see it's working and the people benefiting from this is the Americans.

You ignored this because you know it's true:

So let's put it all in perspective..

1- More Americans have jobs that more than offset the tariff costs to them in one day of work.

2- Wage growth has offset in a days work the cost of the tariffs

3- Trump cut taxes that completely wipe out the cost of the Tariffs making points 1 and 2 really mute.

4- All the while it's not hurting the US citizen, but it is hurting China who has over extended themselves and we will win due to it... thus leveling the playing field and the economy will once again soar.

Literally, all you have in your complaint is it's a tax to the American people that they don't see because they have more money in their pockets WITH THEM than they did over the past 10 years without them...

Doc, I took the time to respond to the OP because I thought it would impart some perspective in light of the overwhelming data. However, it’s pretty clear that there are several CTR types here just pushing a narrative, so we should probably just move on.

Roger is a good guy. On the right side of most things. This is not one of them.

Even if we all agreed it was a tax, Trump lowered all taxes and this "tax" helps Americans while dealing with a cheating nation.

The only long-term play if you actually don't want protectionism for cronies & buddies at the expense of other Americans is multilateral trade deals with independent complaint/enforcement mechanism

because that has worked....

No the best method is individual deals while having secondary options and protecting your own people.

We can deal with China, but if they elect to cheat, we-- THE USA-- deal with them.. not some "UN" type board. We go to our secondary option... add in the 3rd if needs be.

Anyone that thinks making choices more expensive for US companies and consumers is good for the economy is an economic fool.

I suspect China doesn’t believe Trump can deliver a deal given the status of USMCA.

China will probably retaliate some how. I would not own Boeing or Apple or Cat after this news.

Tariffs provide neither.

The washing machine industry was propped up at a cost of over $815,000 for job

Does that sound like good economics? It costs jobs in other sectors.
