Dude, you're progressing into spitballing.

If the facts are on your side, and I am not saying they are not, there is no need to use extremes to make your point if you have a good point.

You're sharper than that.

He’s not entirely correct. For example, China absorbed the majority of their tariff to keep prices low. With the shape of their economy now, they’re even more incentivized to do so.

IVietnam, for example:
quote:

In addition, the labor code also ensures minimum hourly wage rates for the relevant regions. These are:

Region I – VND 23,800 (US$0.94)
Region II – VND 21,200 (US$0.84)
Region III – VND 18,600 (US$0.74)
Region IV – VND 16,600 (US$0.66)

Skilled workers go for about $1.25/hr. You aren't getting unskilled labor in the US for 2x, 4x, or even 10x those rates. Find me a skilled trade (electrician, machinist, welder) for $2.50/hr.

Are you starting to see why a 50%, 100%, 200% tariff won't bring manufacturing back to the US yet?

Indeed.

So canada and mexico saw us tax american citizens, and they were like “wow that looks like fun, we want a turn!” So they put a tax on their citizens too (tariffs on american goods) just for funsies?

As much as I respect Paul his statement does not address the reason for the tariffs. They are to promote both more equitable trade with our partners who hose us and to stimulate companies to build in our country. The tariffs are a negotiating tool that can be used to get countries to feel some pain.
