Man, I had hope for Switzerland after their hardline policies regarding the muslim invaders, but this is some Chicago/New York style government mommy bullshite.

Lobsters taste so good that many of us are willing to shrug at the somewhat barbaric method by which we oversee their painful demise in a cauldron of boiling water. This time-honored tradition of using medieval execution techniques on crustaceans ensures maximum freshness, so we say, but it also poses some pretty obvious animal welfare issues.
Now, the Swiss government is stepping in to make sure that lobster is prepared in the least gruesome way possible within its mountainous borders. According to Agence France-Presse, the Swiss government announced that “the practice of plunging live lobsters into boiling water, which is common in restaurants, is no longer permitted” as of March 1.
Logistically speaking, the government order declares that live lobsters will have to be “stunned” before being boiled, and “only electric shock or the ‘mechanical destruction’ of the lobster’s brain will be accepted methods of stunning the animals once the new rule takes [e]ffect.“ Mechanically destroying a lobster’s brain might sound brutal, but given growing evidence that lobsters feel pain, a pretty instant death via knife or electrical charge is arguably much more humane than the ol' bubbling cauldron of death.

They just have to stab them in the back of the head. Many chefs do this anyway.

And now they are forced to do this by the government.

I wonder if they use the same tool to kill the lobster as they do on a late term abortion babies brain

Hitler did this 80 years ago, so they are a little late

This doesn't really move the needle on my rage-o-meter. I'm a meataterian, but if there's a way to make my food suffer less then I'm okay with it.

I feel like the crush could be a lot more painful. Boiling alive seems like it would be pretty instant shock and painless to me

Yeah. I'm trying to figure out how they determined the new method is less painful/stressful than the old method?
It doesn't SOUND any less painful/stressful. But, then again, I'm not a lobster.
Maybe they interviewed lobsters?

They'll probably spend about 5 million per year enforcing this shite.

I bet abortions are legal in Switzerland

How do the swissies feel about pulling a live fish from his habitat with nothing but a sharp hook in the mouth?

Most already do this in the US.
Either freeze the lobsters before boiling or jabbing a knife into their brains.
It's not really common anymore.
California is embroiled in a foie gras battle...the ban on foie gras was enacted in 2012, overturned in 2015 by a Federal judge and then over-turned again this past September. And there will be more appeals.
Prohibition on certain foods or methods to make the food (boiling lobsters alive or force feeding geese until their liver is fattened) has been going on forever.
Ever had Haggis? You can't in the US. Lungs are considered unfit for human consumption by the US government due to the pathogens that hide in them.

FROM Gulf of Maine Lobster Institute
"How big is a lobster's brain?
Dave Dow, former Director of the Lobster Institute, claims a lobster has a brain the size of a grasshopper's. The lobster brain is primarily just a collection of ganglia, or nerve endings.
It's evident from the lobster brain's lack of complexity that a lobster does not do much deep thinking, adding support to lobstermen's claims that lobsters probably do not feel pain, certainly not in the way humans do.
