So viewership will affect negotiations and price

Nope.

Or something else...something that follows historic trends maybe...

Lets just pretend that other teams hadn't thrown the bank at Gruden in the past.

And he still said No, until ESPN starting slashing costs

Easy for you to say. You weren’t at Hillary’s “victory” party when middle American Electoral Votes were counted.

No yawns here!

Side question: if vewiership increased 7% do you think network would use that to argue more value per time slot?

Or do they just leave that out in negotiations?

I don't care about "if" any more than I care about "could be."

He got $100 million guaranteed. It's the largest contract for any coach in the league.

Your first quote is from October 29, 2017. ESPN has been trying to cut costs for years now.

The network will lift price per time slot in the next superbowls.

Fair enough.

“Could be” was insinuating “detrimental” though, I don’t think viewership coming into play on negotiations is incorrect.

More viewership = good for the network in the negotiations vs the advertisers. Less vewiership being viewed as “not good” for the network doesn’t seem that crazy.

Yet the opposite won’t help the advertisers bargain against the network apparently... And even not being able to increase prices a certain amount means lower viewership is costing the networks money

Gruden found out in Oct (like the rest of us) that ESPN was planning on jettisoning NFL games, by dropping that in their contract language

I understand all this legal mumbo jumbo is over your head and all, but try to keep up

Advertisers might try to bring it up, but it won't work. They're not negotiating solely based on raw viewership, and certainly not on an annual comparison.

ESPN has always guaranteed NFL games on their network, as a reason to charge $7 per subscriber to cable companies

That language no longer exists in the new contracts. The only reason to drop that clause, is if you are planning to make a move, and not be held financially liable. ESPN can now drop MNF, and negotiate with cable companies on lower fees, so they wont get dropped when new pricing plans are released

Here's another deal for more money that the NFL just completed

Verizon will pay approximately $2.5 billion in a five-year deal with the NFL, sources told ESPN. That would be roughly twice the annual price of Verizon's previous deal with the league.

So now we have Verizon and FOX greatly increasing their investment in the league in the past few months

---------

First,ESPN's current contract with the NFL is longer than Gruden's deal was with ESPN.

Second, I recommend that you actually go read the article by Jim Miller that you keep referencing.

Here's a good quote from it:

quote:

If they do, that increased competition could drive prices even higher and further push ESPN out of the game. The league could set aside Monday night as an experimental night for a digital player that would be thrilled to be in the arena and wouldn’t be as demanding, scheduling-wise.

And another:

quote:

Finally, the NFL seems to be cuddling up closer and closer to a land that was once thought to be on the verge of extinction: broadcast networks. The league is worried about those cord-cutting numbers in the cable universe and turned on by news like CBS getting more than $2/household now for retransmission fees (Leslie Moonves, one of broadcast’s more tireless and formidable champions, recently estimated CBS might bring in as much as $2.5 billion a year by 2020; that will certainly get the NFL’s attention). With the league’s bromance with broadcast showing no signs of waning, ESPN’s chances of getting Sunday night or one of the other Sunday games will be difficult at best.

Still waiting for that quote that says ESPN is planning on ditching the NFL. I could see ABC getting back into the game though

The question is can ESPN even afford the NFL going forward due to increased competition and rising prices. --> the takeaway from your own source

I'm done though. Continue to make "facts" up though like you've now done in 3 threads.

There is literally no point in arguing with someone that cant comprehend

ESPN is owned by Disney. Losing the NFL is not because they cant afford it. Its because they don't want it. They also own ABC, a network (which has larger exposure than cable). When is the last time ABC bid for NFL games?

I made my statement and stand by it. I think the photo of Mussolini set you off. You can claim a debate victory with me if you want. I don't care. I choose whom I want to debate and the quality of your post doesn't meet my criterion. Have a good evening.

I doubt that FOX is upping the bid on any NFL game.
