My favorite thing about the abortion debate is that no lay person in any context in any conversation with any other human being ever refers to a baby as a fetus, unless they are talking about the prospect of ending its life.
And why do you suppose that is?

quote:I am sorry, but this is just ridiculously simplistic. I support decriminalization of recreational drugs, and that does not make me a drug fiend. I have never used one in my life. Hell, I just broke my hand, and I only took two prescribed pain pills so that I could sleep the first two nights. About 40 remain in the bottle.
If a woman is pro choice they are basically telling everyone that they would consider murdering a defenseless baby & they shouldn’t be held accountable for their actions. Any woman that wants to have an abortion because they don’t want to have a baby using the argument “muh body muh decision” should be required to have tubal ligation on their own dime.

Just a useless post. What do think it means?

Maybe. I wonder if it also has anything to do with the odd emotional response people have to the term.

Zygote, blastocyst, embryo, fetus, newborn, infancy, toddlerhood, Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Adolescence, Early Adulthood, Middle Adulthood, Late Adulthood. Each refers to a distinct period of development. Depending upon your flexibility, the term “baby” could arguably be applied to any of them up to and including early childhood.
You rely upon that ambiguity for emotional appeal. I think we should try to keep emotion OUT of these analyses.

quote:What's disingenuous about it? People claim to literally believe it is baby murder. What crime is more heinous than that? I suppose it would be baby murder on a MASS SCALE...which in their eyes is supposedly what we've had for the past 50 years. Yet these hand-wringers live their lives going to LSU football games and watching reality TV...and posting on message boards. I cannot understand what would ever be a motivating factor for someone if not a literal baby holocaust occurring in their midst...via sanction of the sovereign government to which they pay taxes and fealty.
I am Pro-Choice, and I too get tired of seeing this silly-assed, disingenuous argument.
Obviously, you are left with one main takeaway: either they don't actually consider it to be baby murder OR they are moral monsters who sit idly by while the baby holocaust happens.
