They will form their own ISD, separate from the EBRP school system with their own school board.
That will take a 2/3 approval vote by both houses of the legislature and then it must pass a statewide vote, plus approval in an EBR parish wide vote and a vote by the residents of St. George.

So they will not pay city taxes and will build their own school system? haven't really been following.

No need to follow. There is no plan besides "we want to get away from North Baton Rouge and a new school" People here heard separate from North Baton Rouge and jumped on the idea.

I'd rather let them separate from BR and form their own city, taking Broome and the Metro Council idiots with them.

Does anyone know what it would take to dissolve this city-parish form of government and have br city be is own entity?

Would that improve the parish overall?

They are a bright spot, not just in EBR but statewide

Don’t fool yourself. LA public education is not good.

Not a slam dunk - for sure.

It would spell disaster for the city of BR. Red Stick would turn into Jackson 2.0 in less than 5 years.

You'd have massive white flight to the southern part of the parish, or to Ascension and Livingston parishes. St. George would at least keep tax revenues within EBR parish.

It’s crazy to me that you have to jump through this many hoops in order to form a city. Why should so many people outside of the proposed area have a say in the matter?

That's NOT for forming a new city.

That's the process for creating a new school district because school district creation requires an amendment to the Louisiana constitution.
