Special Election.... GOP wins in Az
How is this possible? Doug Jones won in Alabama. Blue Wave. Stormy. This is unpossible. I feel as if massive amounts of voter fraud must have taken place.

Should we be afraid that it was so close?
Almost of these special elections are the result of GOPers leaving/resigning seats "in disgrace" or under a cloud of controversy (except AL Senate). These are typically the only elections on voting day, so the most motivated group can have a real impact (think all of the property tax millage votes in EBR).
Disenchanted GOP + sometimes shitty GOP candidate (Roy Moore) + motivated Dems/left + "unicorn" Dem candidate (i.e., "moderate") = much closer margins if not a "steal" of the election.
The Left likes to trumpet how much the GOP puts into these races, but they do so in an effort to overcome these inherent disadvantages.
It will be a much different landscape come November 2018, when the entire House, 1/3 of the Senate and a lot of state level races will be taking place (e.g., governor elections). A lot of reason for people the get to the polls. The advantage the Dems have had won't be as significant.
But, make no mistake, they will have their dead (brain and physically) out to the polls so the GOP cannot be complacent.

The spin machine is fast, already seeing lots of, "Well, this was a big gain in votes for the Ds in this district even though they lost"
Falls right in line with their philosophy of participation trophies.. They lost, but at least they tried very hard..

That’s what you guys are calling a victory now? Pretty sad.

Right, but they are still sinking resources into what should be safe seats. Trump won the AZ district by what, 21 pts? This shouldn't even be a race! Now, why this was a race, there are a myriad of reasons why and we probably won't know what the real reason was.
However, it does mean that Rs have to spend time and money to win them. Dave Wasserman says there are 147 GOP seats that are less republican than AZ08. There is no way the democrats win all of those races, or even most of those races.
But they only need 23. And that seems pretty likely.
Oh, and if you see the trend of D+6 to D+12 from 2016, then some senate seats are in play - TN, AZ, and TX. I doubt that the dems win any of those, but they are going to make them a game.
Forcing the Rs to defend so much territory shoudl enable the dems to snag the house in the fall. Probably by 10 seats or so, maybe more.

also, let us recognize that the control of this seat is merely cosmetic. The fall election is less than 7 months away, and the house isn't going to need this vote.

I just think it's funny how y'all will spin this as a win while ignoring the 15-20% swing blue.
Actually my reductionist friend, the last election had the winner going by 6%

no chance any typical republican types would've won the presidential election.
not suprising to see tight races all over the country.
