Spain v Shakira - Why am I skeptical about alleged tax evasion?

NY post
No I can’t post pics. One of you Baws can find a hot one.
Spain is threatening to send Shakira to jail for 10 years bc they claimed she lived more than 50 percent of her time in Spain btwn 2012 and 2014. In other words 10 yrs ago, when she was dating some Spanish soccer player. Her official residence is apparently on the Bahamas.
I trust no government aligned with the EU. I trust no government with respect to tax collection.
Can someone do a wellness check on Shakira’s politics? Or at least explain to me why I shouldn’t be skeptical here.
I saw this on Twitter and apparently the only crime the morally virtuous left is willing to criticize is tax evasion. It occurred to me that in many cases it’s a technicality and/or difference of opinion.
It isn’t as if she paid no taxes. She just didn’t atone for her wealth enough, apparently.
Thoughts?

Messi had the same thing. Why does this keep happening in Spain?

Nah, the Spanish tax authorities have done this to other famous people who were living in Spain. If I recall, they either changed a tax law and then applied it retroactively or suddenly decided to start enforcing part of the already existing tax code. I think the change happened in 2014? That was the way they charged Leo Messi with tax evasion and they targeted other mainly non-Spanish soccer players, like Ronaldo, Neymar, and even coach Jose Mourinho.

Spain goes after every big celebrity, my guess is she is about to legally leave Pique.
They went after Ronaldo, Messi, etc when they left spain.
They are dirty.

Not a new thing either.
The Brits did this shite a lot, especially in the 60s and 70s, which is why you had songs like Taxman by the Beatles and albums like Exile On Main St by The Rolling Stones.
People would life in a less taxed area for most of the year in order to avoid paying backbreaking rates to Inland Revenue.

Tbh, I cannot imagine having an opinion on a tax dispute between Spain and a celebrity who lives there.

Because Spain is broke. They built cities with nobody living in them and roads to nowhere.
