‘South Park’ Creators Stun Hollywood Crowd: ‘We’re Republicans’

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker reportedly stunned a liberal Hollywood crowd this week after revealing they are proud Republicans.
After receiving a ‘Freedom Award’ from Norman Lear’s left-wing organization People for the American Way Foundation, the pair apparently revealed their true political persuasion.
“Trey Parker & Matt Stone of @SouthPark asked me to introduce them when they received a ‘freedom’ award from Norman Lear’s organization,” Larry Elder wrote on Twitter. “After they graciously accepted, they said, ‘We’re republicans.’ Nervous laughter. They repeated, ‘No, seriously, we’re republicans.'”
quote:
Although not overtly political, the pair have long described themselves as libertarians, but have claimed what they really dislike are the excesses of both political extremes.
“What we’re sick of—and it’s getting even worse—is: you either like Michael Moore or you wanna frickin’ go overseas and shoot Iraqis,” Parker was quoted as saying in 2004.
“Basically, if you think Michael Moore’s full of shite, then you are a super-Christian right-wing whatever. And we’re both just pretty middle-ground guys. We find just as many things to rip on on the left as we do on the right. People on the far left and the far right are the same exact person to us.”
I love the fact that they'll accept an award from a group that is super liberal and whose goal is to "Defeat Trump and the Right Wing" and tell the crowd that they are Republicans.

Not a huge surprise. They’ve ripped on Michael Moore & Al Gore. They’ve also ripped Palin, McCain and Obama too. They call out stupid shite on both sides.

To be honest, there is a good chance they are not actually registered Republican and just said that to frick with the liberals.
Anyone who watches South Park knows they hate everyone and call out bullshite on all sides.

Interesting note on Norman Lear:
quote:
In 2003 Lear made an appearance on South Park during the "I'm a Little Bit Country" episode, providing the voice of Benjamin Franklin. He also served as a consultant on the episodes "I'm a Little Bit Country" and "Cancelled".
Lear has attended a South Park writers' retreat, and served as the officiant at co-creator Trey Parker's wedding.

Could be just a big troll, which wouldn't be surprising. I still see them a libertarians.

Exactly what I thought. They rail on both sides hard. Their shite sandwich vs. Douche episode is a good example.

Absolutely. Article evens says they are libertarians and sick of the extreme from both sides. I just love the balls they have on them to accept an award from one of those extreme sides and frick with them while accepting it.
