Some impressive current economic stats

Retail sales up 6% (remember thats 68% of GDP).
Fleet truck orders for the year at a 14 year high, and last month was 52,000 an all time record.
Productivity averaged 1.3% the last decade, last quarter 2.9%.
Pretty amazing what is happening.

I need an ELI 5 on the deficit. Is it because of expected tax receipts vs expected spending(approved budget)?
It's the only thing the dems hang their hats on and claim the sky is falling. Just curious why in a booming economy the deficit is growing. Is that common with an uptick in the economy?
