C_nt cap. At least that was what it was called back in the day.

I enlisted in 1997 and remember it being called that at the time.

I wasn't ever laid in it though.

Edit: Fun fact: I had the pleasure of being stationed at Fort Bragg in 2001 when the Army switched to the black beret for everyone else and being in the only leg unit in Bragg. Fun shite.

I may be in the minority here, but as long as my M-16 was cleaned properly after use, it never gave me problems. No gun oil. Just q tips after each use to get the carbon off. I was out by the time the M-4 was given out so I can’t speak to those.

I can't recall what was worse, the black beret or wanting to replace armor with Strykers.

Either you must have paid off the armorer when turning in your weapon or had some magic q-tips.

I trained with the M14. The M16 was just being introduced. Fired both weapons. The M14 was a better weapon.

My SOP was putting a crisp $20 bill in the chamber of my M60.

I remember my company CO coming back with his M9 cussing about how much the armorer was an a-hole. Amazing how much power a PFC can hold when they're in the arms room.

I did armorer for a couple years as a spec. It can be a very lucrative duty. And I lived for E7 and above with bad attitudes.
